Autumn Haag, former Reference Archivist at the Massachusetts State Archives in Boston and current Librarian/Archivist at Roxbury Community College, will talk about how we can use Massachusetts legislative records to research women; the archives holds a large number of petitions from women to the General Court on topics ranging from name changes to divorces to the suffrage movement.

Michele Plourde-Barker, Preservation Massachusetts. You may be surprised to learn that women’s history is still comparatively unrepresented in many aspects of our nation’s formally-recognized history. This session aims to help historians understand the workings of both the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and the National Historic Landmarks (NHL) program, both programs within the National Park Service. The session will cover the state of women’s history in Register documentation today and the process by which nominations are completed and evaluated.
